seattle trip and advetures in cooking!

OK so I talked to my dad the night before I left for Seattle and it went a little like this

Me: So dad i do have to tell you one thing before I go
Dad: OK?(he sounded a little worried)
Me: I had surgery while you were in Jordan and now I have a special diet
Dad: OK whatever just let me know what you want to eat.
Me: I got the lap-band so i can eat a lot of different things I just can't eat very much.
Dad: I don't know what that is.
Me: it's a band around my stomach to help me eat less. oh and I look a lot different than the last time you saw me.
Dad: WHAT DO YOU MEAN? (now all of a sudden he sounded pissed)
Me: well I've lost about 60lbs since the last time you saw me.
Dad:oh OK well see you tomorrow.

That was about it. He was a lot calmer than I thought he would be. It kind of scared me. So I get to his house the next day, I walk in, he looks at me and smiles. Then he says " you know if you hadn't gotten fat in the first place you wouldn't have needed surgery" HAHAHAHA Thanks dad because that's news to me.

Now this is just my dad for you, the fact that he didn't scream is a compliment. So i don't take it personally when he says things like this. I mean he has said a lot worse in the past.

The rest of my trip was great, I got to see friends and family that I haven't seen in forever. I wish I lived closer to them but oh well I don't live that far away. I got to go shopping with my friend wenchi while i was in Seattle and it was great. There are so many more choices when it comes to shopping in Seattle. So I had a few NSV's (non scale victories) The first was that all the tops that I bought were size larges!!! Now some of them don't fit just right yet but they are close. The second is that I tried on a pair of jeans that I used to have to wear in a size 24 and I tried on a size 16 and it was loose!!! That was an exciting one. i just stood in the dressing room and stared at the mirror. hahaha And also I had a bunch of 1x shirts and none of them fit! so I think I'm officially not plus size on my upper half!!! hahaha my bottom half is another story but that's OK cause half of me isn't plus size. hahahaha Also some NSV's that I've noticed in my everyday life. when I sit I have space in between my legs. I can now sit with my legs crossed. I never used to be able to do that! It's kind of cool to see all these little things.

OK but on part of my trip that I've realized isn't fun. Trying to eat while traveling. When I was actually with friends or family it was fine but I had a hard time eating when I was driving by myself to and from Seattle. I never knew what to eat. It was hard to find portions that worked for me so I've decided that next time I'm going to pack a lunch before I go.

I rescheduled my fill appointment and they didn't have an opening until may 5th which is fine. I feel my band loosening up a lot lately but not enough to make me gain weight just enough to keep me stable which is fine with me. The only problem is that the fill is 4 days before my birthday so I hope I feel up to going out that weekend still.

So kind of off subject but I've been talking to a lot of people lately about how I wished I was one of those people that could look in their cupboards and just think of something to cook. I can't cook without figuring what I want to make first and then going out and buying the groceries and then cooking. And I'm not very creative so it's hardly ever anything very exciting but I've been trying to take some initiative and become one of those people. Last night I made a garlic shrimp dish and I'm so proud of myself because I even cleaned and deveined the shrimp all by myself. Then I had my friend and her boyfriend over for dinner and they seemed to like it. Then today for lunch I made asparagus with garlic and sweet onions and they made a small steak and it was great. I didn't even have a recipe for the asparagus I kind of made it up as I went along. I made enough for me and my mom to eat that and she said you know that you're now a better cook than I am. It was kind of cool to hear that even though it doesn't mean much since she can't cook at all either. but my whole life I've felt like I've been missing out because she never really taught me what she did know about cooking. I always thought that I couldn't just become this person that I really want to be. Last night and today really gave me hope. and I'm really excited to think of some other things.

So onto another random and totally unrelated topic I started school on Monday and I'm already bored. hahaha I'm taking basically the same classes I was in last quarter just the next in the series so it feels like nothing has changed other than the fact that I don't have my night class and instead I have an online class which is better.

I've got nothing else to ramble on about so I'm out!

Welcome back to blog land! Woo...you told your dad, thats got to be a weight off your chest (pun intended). If size 16 is loose on your bottom I dont know if I would consider you plus sized anywhere. Size 16 is a normal girl size, BECAUSE you can now go into almost all stores (with the exception of 5-7-9) and buy off the rack! Good job!

I'm absolutely not a make-it-up-as-you-go kinda cook either! I have to have a menu planned and then plan my grocery list based on that... sucks :( I totally get ya on that one!

Glad your dad approved, in his own way :)

WOOHOOO on 1/2 not plus-sized!! AWESOME!!!
